July 4, 2022

If you’ve ever brought your vehicle to Dave’s Auto Repair in Sarasota to get your oil changed, then you’ve probably heard the topic of synthetic oil get brought up. While the cost is slightly higher than conventional motor oil, opting for synthetic has many advantages for the longevity and performance of your automobile. If you’ve ever been curious about why that is, then we’re here to enlighten and inform.

Higher Temperatures for a Higher Grade of Performance

If you’ve ever encountered the Florida sun, then you already know that it can be quite unforgiving. Especially when it comes to your car. The engine in your car is a mass of moving parts that generates a heavy amount of friction. Engine oil is designed to keep these parts lubricated so that they can run efficiently without overheating. While a conventional motor oil can withstand the heat of up to 300 degrees, synthetic oil can still function in temperatures in excess of 700.

Additives that Add to Performance

As you might be able to discern from the title, synthetic motor oil is made of artificial materials that allow it to work better than conventional motor oil. This allows the oil to have a slower burn-off and last for much longer durations. For example, after an engine has been running for six hours interrupted, 30% of its weight. A synthetic oil, because of its fabricated structure will lose only 3-4%.

A “Deposit” for Your Engine’s Longevity

While friction cannot be halted altogether, synthetic oil can actually cause the process to move at a much slower pace. All oil will collect deposits while in use, and this allows the engine to keep running and stay clean. Because of its structure, synthetic oil has fewer deposits when its placed into your engine allowing it to work more effectively at extending the longevity of your vehicle’s engine.

A Difference You’ll Notice

The next time you get an oil change, try out synthetic oil instead of the conventional brand. You’ll notice the difference in no time at all, and the performance of your vehicle will benefit greatly. Summer is the perfect time to do this, especially now that the Florida sun has come out to shine.
