Does Your Vehicle’s Suspension Need to Be Repaired?

July 24, 2023

Owning a vehicle is both an investment and a responsibility. The routine maintenance that you have performed at regular intervals is how you recoup a return and ensure that it stays on the road and runs well. And while this is an essential preventative measure, there are sometimes circumstances beyond our control that can have an adverse effect on our vehicles. Among these are certain problems that can occur with your suspension. Knowing the warning signs of a problem and having it looked at as soon as possible can make all the difference in the world between a light repair bill and an expensive one.

Nose Dives

If your vehicle hits a bump while you’re on the road and you notice that the front of your car points downward, this is a sign that your suspension and shock absorbers might be failing. This is a red flag, and you should have your vehicle looked at as soon as possible.

Excessive or Uneven Tire Wear

Whenever you bring your vehicle in for an oil change, there’s a good chance the mechanic balances and rotates your tires as well. This is to ensure that the tread is wearing evenly and doesn’t bald prematurely. If you notice that your tires are wearing faster than normal, this can be a problem with your suspension or a faulty alignment.

Pulling to One Side

If you notice your vehicle is pulling to one side, even when you’re holding the steering wheel perfectly still, this is usually a sign of an issue with your vehicle’s suspension. It usually indicates a faulty wheel alignment or faulty shock absorbers. Either way, it’s best to bring your vehicle to a mechanic right away.

Noises and Vibrations

These are two symptoms that are very common with suspension issues. When your vehicle is in operation, and you notice your steering wheel vibrate erratically, this is usually a sign that your suspension and shock absorbers are having difficulties. The same can be said for loud noises. Your vehicle is a collection of moving parts, and noises almost always indicate a problem that can become serious if not properly attended to.
